Awareness Session on Agriculture Biosafety and Climate Change at KIBGE, UoK

On July 23, 2024, an awareness session on “Agriculture Biosafety and Climate Change: A Step towards Safe Environment” was held at Dr. A.Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi (UoK).

The event started with an address by Prof. Dr. Saddia Galani who welcomed the participants and speakers and thanked them for their attendance. She emphasized on the importance of discussing the session’s theme and encouraged everyone to engage in a meaningful and impactful conversation.

During the session, the President of PBSA, Prof. Dr. Saeed Khan gave a plenary session on the Impact of Climate Change on Infectious Diseases where he discussed the known and unknown consequences of environmental impacts on emerging pathogens.

Lectures from other notable speakers were also delivered including Dr. Saif-Ullah Khan, Dr. Shahid Mansoor, and Dr. Nazeer Hussain Kalhoro on various topics concering agriculture biosafety and climate change.

An open discussion among speakers, participants and students was also facilitated to talk about current and future practices in agriculture biosafety.

The event ended with an address by the Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Khalid Muhammad Iraqi, who applauded the efforts of the organizers and accentuated the need for holding such awareness sessions in the current scenario of climate change.
