Results of 2022-2024 Pakistan Biological Safety Association Elections
Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA) is proud to inform our members of the results of the 2022-2024 elections for the positions of President, General Secretary and Treasurer.
Below are some details regarding our successful nominees:
- President: Prof. Dr. Saeed Khan
Postdoc , University of Washington, USA ; Professor of Pathology, Additional Director IBMS ; Head of Molecular Pathology,, Department of Pathology, Dow International Medical College (DIMC)
I am currently working as Professor of Pathology at Dow International Medical College and serving as Additional Director of Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS). I have earned PhD in Microbiology from Karachi University in collaboration with Aga Khan University Karachi, Pakistan in 2010, followed by Post-Doctoral training in Molecular Virology from Mullins Molecular Retrovirology Laboratory, University of Washington, Seattle WA, USA.
I have been appointed as American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Country Ambassador to Pakistan and serving as a General Secretary for Pakistan Association of Molecular Pathologists. I am certified professional from IFBA in Biorisk Management and U.S. Certified Biosafety Master Trainer. I have been associated with PBSA since 2015 and actively involved in different programs as Biosafety Coach, Master Trainer and Facilitator. I have presented various research projects on biosafety in Pakistan at different international projects including, EBSA, ABSA, ABSANZ, APBSA, ASM Biothreats etc. and has also won several best poster awards.
I have a strong background, deep knowledge and vast experience of BRM infrastructure in Pakistan. I also have strong international collaborations and linkages with international biosafety professionals and societies. So my inclusion in the PBSA executive council will further strengthen the PBSA collaborations with international partners that will ultimately developed new awareness programs to strengthen BRM infrastructure with special focus on rural and tribal areas with resource limited settings.
General Secretary: Dr. Javed Muhammad

I am passionate to strengthen PBSA more as a national organization and make it more prominent in international healthcare community. My presence at PBSA forum will help to device a training at regional level in each province and raise funds from different sources so that we could develop biorisk management awareness in each institute of Pakistan. I am working voluntarily KP Chapter Head for PBSA, before which I was the Program Coordinator.
He is an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Lead Assessor, IFBA certified professional, PBSA Master Trainer and WHO certified Shipper and working as a trainer on enhancing biosafety and biosecurity measures at both national and international forum in collaboration with FIC, NIH, USA and HSP, USA, and ASM. He has professional membership of PBSA, MMIDSP, GHSA, PSM and ASM and participated in many scientific forums at different countries.
Currently, I am working with Dr. Philippe Stroot, Belgium for developing biosafety cabinet manual for Pakistani scientists under platform of PBSA-NIH, USA funded project and he has approved Biorisk Management and Management of Infectious Waste course from Board of Study, University of Swabi for both undergraduate and post graduate students.

PBSA as an esteemed and prestigious organization working for Biosafety Biosecurity is always a pride to be part of it. This organization is working in a true spirit for the prevention of infectious diseases and awareness about Biosafety and Biosecurity.
Working with PBSA is always learning innovation in the field of Biosafety, Biosecurity and leadership.
As treasurer, not only will my own learning expand, but will also enable me to spread the knowledge of Biosafety and Biosecurity to the marginalized and underdeveloped areas of our beloved Pakistan.
I will try to collaborate with the local Instututions and organisations for the extension of PBSA activities in a sustainable way. My priority as treasurer will be to engage every single member in different PBSA activities.
I will initiate focus groups of members accordung to the expertise and area of reach of the respective members.
Working as PBSA Treasurer will make me enable to work more promptly to collectively achieve a Biosafe and Biosecure Pakistan one day In Sha Allah.
