Announcement: Change of Office Bearers

We would like to inform all members and stakeholders that the previous office bearers of the Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA) have successfully completed their elected tenure. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for their dedicated service and contributions to the association’s growth and success.

In accordance with PBSA’s governance structure, the Board of Directors (BOD) has elected interim office bearers to carry forward the association’s activities until the next elections are held.

The interim office bearers are as follows:

“Biosafety Cabinet Selection, Installation and Safe Use”

The International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA), with the support of NuAire, is offering a unique grant opportunity for professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in Biosafety. This grant covers the examination fees for the IFBA Professional Certification in Biosafety Cabinet Selection, Installation, and Safe Use. This certification recognizes individuals with demonstrated competencies in the proper selection and safe use of biosafety cabinets when handling infectious materials.

Eligibility Criteria:
🔹 Fluent in English (exam available only in English)
🔹 Must hold a valid IFBA Professional Certification in Biorisk Management
🔹 Must work with, use, or be responsible for maintaining biological safety cabinets
🔹 Familiar with the IFBA IFBA Biosafety Cabinet Selection Installation & Safety Use Exam Content Study Guide

Reputation is everything and Zia Ashraf has worked very hard to ensure everything he has done personally and professionally is to the very best of his abilities. He is an IFBA Certified Professional in three major disciplines: Biorisk Management; Biological Waste Management; and Biosafety Cabinet Selection, Installation and Safe Use. Zia studied in the most prestigious
institutes of Pakistan and received his M.Phil in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan where he carried out research in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry. He received his Graduation in BSc. HONS Medical Laboratory Technology
from University of Health Sciences, Pakistan. Zia has been blessed to serve in health care – from diagnosing different diseases in the laboratory, maintaining quality control, developing and delivering the behavioral-based Biosafety and ISO training programs – to helping people find
justice through Forensic Histopathology at Punjab Forensic Science Agency and managing the daily tasks within the organization. Currently he is serving as Forensic Scientist at Punjab Forensic Science Agency, Home Department Government of the Punjab, Pakistan. He is also

The IFBA’s Professional Certification program continues to expand its global footprint with certified individuals in over 50 countries worldwide. The number of individuals with their Professional Certification in Biorisk Management has now surpassed the 650 mark,representing a significant milestone for our growing international community of certified professionals. Many of these individuals have also earned additional certifications in Biosecurity, Biological Waste Management, Biosafety Cabinets and Biocontainment Facilities.

The success of the program can be partially attributed to a surge in recognition by employers and governments of the need for certifying the competency of individuals handling biological materials. On an individual level, certification has helped biosafety professionals differentiate themselves as achieving a high standard of excellence. With the dedication and commitment from IFBA’s global community of biosafety associations, and key partners, the momentum is expected to grow over the coming year by expanding the availability of IFBA’s examinations in multiple languages.
